Anthony van Dyck was a Flemish painter of the Baroque period, a famous portraitist and a pupil of Rubens. From 1632 he worked in England at the court of Charles I. He is best known for his portraits of the aristocracy, especially Charles I, and his family and associates. He also painted mythological and biblical compositions. In addition to oil painting, he often used watercolour and etching techniques.
