About the department

The first professional photographic studio in Poland was established in 1844 "Karol Beyer Daguerrotype Workshop in Warsaw". It was only the beginning of the real revolution that was yet to come. 177 years have passed since then, and photography itself has changed dramatically. People were given the opportunity to watch and experience places and events hundreds of kilometers away from them. Today, most of us have a camera in our pockets many times better than those available several dozen years ago. All this meant that over the years, photography has evolved from a curiosity to a fully-fledged field of art.

What is collector's photography?

Collector's photography is a special type of photography because it is characterized by timeless artistic values. In order for a given photograph to be considered for collector, it must meet additional formal conditions: the prints must be made in such a way as to ensure archival durability, the prints must be numbered and contain information on how many were made in total. Thanks to their limited number, collector's photography often achieves great value, and this is reflected in prices at auctions around the world. Collectors desire these works also because of their numerous aesthetic qualities.

Collector's photography auctions

The Photography Department was established to organize auctions where you can purchase unique collector's photographs of outstanding Polish artists. So far, we have had the opportunity to host works by famous names, including: Zdzisław Beksiński, Natalia Lach-Lachowicz, Tadeusz Rolke and Stanisław Szukalski. We are constantly developing our offer in the photography department, so in the future you can expect even more works by artists, both older and younger. The collector's photography market is developing very dynamically in Poland, and we have the pleasure to support this development by organizing our numerous auctions.

Although each of us is able to take a photo, only a small fraction of the photo has a special artistic value. In 2014, photographer Peter Lik sold his work for a staggering $ 6.5 million. The development of artistic photography, collector's photography is conditioned, among others, by through the possibilities offered by today's technology. Aside from the ability to edit and modify photos with computer programs, cameras can capture literally anything. From the micro scale to the macro scale - from pictures of atoms to pictures of entire galaxies. That is why we constantly reach new limits in the art of photography, and thanks to this, artists can constantly surprise us with their creativity.
