Virginia Woolf was an English writer, who is considered to be one of the foremost modernist authors of the 20th century and a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. Woolf, apart from love for literature, has been interested in photography since she was 15 years old.

Virginia Woolf photos

She used to collect pictures and keep them in photo albums. Harvard Library has digitzed her collection and shared the compilation online. The website presented six albums of photographs created during 1890-1947, which include pretty important literary figures, for example: M. Forster, John Maynard Keynes, and W.B. Yeats.

Maggie Humn in her book ‘’Modernist Women and Visual Cultures” wrote that “From the age of 15, photographs framed Virginia Woolf’s world. Throughout her life she wrote about photography in her diaries, letters and essays, and used photographic terms descriptively in her fiction”.
