Jacek Malczewski was a Polish painter, one of the most important representatives of Symbolism at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. He grew up in a patriotic noble family, which instilled in him a love for the homeland. Thus, in his paintings he took up patriotic and messianic themes. Autobiographical motifs and elements of native folklore are also noticeable in his work. His works were awarded in international exhibitions, he received medals in Munich (1892), Berlin (1891) and Paris (1900), among others. In Radom, the painter's home town, there is a permanent exhibition of his paintings.
