Marta Magdalena Abakanowicz-Kosmowska was a Polish sculptor and artistic textile artist. She is known for her use of textiles as a sculptural medium and outdoor installations. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sopot. In 1979, she became a professor at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań, where she taught from 1965 to 1990. She became internationally renowned for her monumental, spatial tapestries with a relief texture (Abakany).
