Moïse Kisling was a painter of Polish-Jewish origin, he is considered to be one of the most outstanding representatives of École de Paris (a multinational artistic grouping active in Paris during the interwar period and also after World War II). Between 1907 and 1910 he studied under Józef Pankiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. After leaving for Paris, he continued his studies and quite quickly became famous there and was nicknamed "The Prince of Montparnasse". In his most famous works, mostly portraits with a melancholic touch, one can see the influence of the work of Amedeo Modigliani. His works are now highly valued on the antiquarian market.
