Rafał Malczewski was a Polish painter, draftsman, writer and columnist, his father was Jacek Malczewski. He received his artistic education at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts and in his father's atelier. He was a member of the "Rhythm" group (an artistic association established in the interwar period in Warsaw). Most often he painted landscapes from the Tatra Mountains, Podhale, views of small towns and factory in Silesia, later also from Brazil and Canada. In his works one can notice a fairy-tale feature, Malczewski was close to the art of naive realism. He was a keen mountaineer, skier and populariser of sport.
