Martin Mayer was founded around 1888 in Mainz in Germany, and quickly gained recognition for its production of jewelry, silverware, and items made from coral and precious stones. The company specialized in creating exquisite jewelry, which was showcased at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. By 1895, Martin Mayer began mass-producing jewelry, and in 1907, it was taken over by Bernhard, Albert, and Ernst Mayer, who became its owners.
In 1914, the company was renamed Martin Mayer GmbH and expanded its management team with the addition of Willy Kieckbusch. Despite gaining a negative reputation between 1937 and 1939, the company remained one of Germany's key manufacturers of jewelry and silverware, collaborating with designers such as Peter Behrens and H. Christiansen.
