In which region of Poland can we find the most art galleries and their regular visitors? The answer might surprise you – according to data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), the two figures do not necessarily go hand in hand.
On Tuesday, 7 April, the Office published statistics on the activities of Polish art galleries in 2025. Before we look at the figures, it is worth clarifying which category of institutions is being referred to: the definition used by the Office does not include, for example, museum branches. The survey therefore concerns a specific type of institution whose primary mission is the promotion of art and exhibition activities.
The published data shows that in 2025, both the number of visitors and the number of institutions themselves increased.
At the end of last year, there were 321 art galleries operating in Poland – 3.5% more than the previous year.
If we look at the map, the number of visitors per gallery is particularly high in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The Warmian-Masurian and Podkarpackie Voivodeships also record high figures, with over 16,000 visitors per gallery annually.
However, none of these provinces leads in terms of the total number of venues – here, the leader is the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Paradoxically, despite having the largest number of art galleries, Lesser Poland is among the regions where they are visited least frequently.
