Christie's Paris is organizing a raffle in which anyone who buys a ticket for €100 will have a chance to win Pablo Picasso's painting 'Tête de Femme' ('Woman's Head'). Most of the proceeds from the sale will go to a foundation dedicated to Alzheimer's disease research.
This is not the first event of its kind, but due to Picasso's name, the stakes are exceptionally high.
In 2018, Banksy held a similar raffle: participants had to guess the weight of his sculpture entitled “Dream Boat.” Tickets cost only $2, and the proceeds went to Choose Love, an organization helping refugees.
In 2019, Visual AIDS also organized an event for which artists from around the world – including well-known names such as Hans Haacke and Ed Ruscha – donated small-format works, each priced at $85.
Visitors could choose any work and pay this small amount for it, but none of the works were signed, so instinct was the most important factor.
