Alfred Lenica was a Polish painter, an artist associated with the Cracow avant-garde. He was educated at the Private Institute of Fine Arts under Adam Hanytkiewicz and J. Kubowicz. At the beginning of his artistic path, he created cubist figurative paintings, mainly still lives and landscapes. During the Second World War, he took a keen interest in the avant-garde. He began to paint abstract compositions.  He had a characteristic style - swirling, colourful, sometimes calligraphically elaborated forms. Interestingly, he actively participated in the socialist realist trend, creating many realistic paintings in the early 1950s. He was a co-founder of the avant-garde group 4F+R.
