Artemisia Gentileschi was an Italian painter living at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, creating in the spirit of Caravaggio. She studied under her father, the fresco painter Orazio Gentileschi, and under the mannerist painter Agostino Tassi. She was the first woman to be admitted to the Accademia del Disegno in Florence.
