Charles Le Brun was a French painter, architect and decorator of the Baroque period. He studied under François Perrier, Simon Vout and Poussin. The artist was a co-founder of the Royal Academy, holding the position of professor there and, in later years, also rector. He was royal painter at the court of Louis XIV and general curator of the royal art collection. Poussin's classicism and the mature Italian Baroque can be seen in his paintings.
