Cornelis Floris de Vriendt was a Flemish sculptor, architect and engraver. Very little is known about his education, he probably learned in his father's stone workshop, and in 1539 he became a master in the guild of St Luke in Antwerp. Interestingly, he is mentioned as one of the architects-designers of the Antwerp Town Hall. In 1648, a series of 21 prints by Floris were published in Antwerp, depicting designs for vases, jugs and bowls with grotesque patterns. These and other publications helped to spread the artist's style throughout Northern Europe.
