Ernest Hillemacher was a French painter, a representative of academism. In 1838 he was admitted to the École des Beaux-arts in Paris. He made his debut at the Salon in 1840, and in the following years was its regular contributor. In 1861 and 1863 he won 1st class medals there. His work has been reproduced many times with the help of rotogravure (graphic technique). He died in Paris at the age of 68, his works were sold two months later at an auction at Hôtel Drouot.
