January Suchodolski was a Polish painter of the Romantic period, a battle painter, an officer in the Polish army and a November insurgent. He studied painting at the French Academy in Rome, in the atelier of Horace Vernet. After returning to Poland, he participated in the founding of the Warsaw Society of Fine Arts "Zachęta". He was the author of patriotic and battle compositions. He often painted horses.
