Mela Muter was a Polish painter of Jewish origin, portraitist and representative of modernism. From 1901 she lived in Paris, where she attended classes at, among others, the Académie Colarossi. Her style can be described as original, growing out of the post-impressionist tradition. Her important solo exhibitions include those at the galleries Chéron (1918) and Druet (1926 and 1928), and in Poland at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts (1923). She is counted among the artists associated with the École de Paris.
