Roman Sielski was a Polish-Ukrainian painter, and son of Julian Sielski, a lawyer. Sielski's first teacher was Ołeksy Nowakiwśki. From 1922, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, in the atelier of Józef Mehoffer and Józef Pankiewicz, and from 1926 he studied in Paris. In 1947, he became a lecturer at the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. He painted synthetic, simplified forms during the interwar period, and emphasized contours.
