Simon Mondzain was a Polish painter of Jewish origin, associated with the École de Paris. He started his artistic education at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under the guidance of Kazimierz Stabrowski. In 1909-12 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the ateliers of Teodor Axentowicz and Józef Pankiewicz. In 1912, he settled permanently in Paris. During his Parisian period, he succumbed to the art of Cézanne and the cubist phase of Derain's art. In the 20's and 30's he turned towards multi-figure compositions modelled on the painting of the Italian quattrocento.
