Tomasz Dolabella was a Venetian painter, one of the main representatives of Baroque painting in Poland. He acquired his skills in Venice under the supervision of a Greek painter Antonio Vassilacchi. It is known that in the Venetian period he took part in the decoration of the Doge's Palace. He was brought to Poland by King Sigismund III Vasa. He was commissioned by both Sigismund III and Władysław IV Vasa, as well as by Jan III Casimir. In 2020 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw there was a monographic exhibition of the artist, 'Dolabella. Venetian painter of the Vasa dynasty". Tomasz Dolabella is considered to be one of the two significant Venetian painters working in Poland (next to Bernard Bellotto called Canaletto).
