Description

Artbidy auction house presents a unique auction where you can purchase a series of 15 prints by Salvador Dalí from 1972. Each of the works in the series of "Florals (Surrealist Flowers)" has been executed in dry needle and heliogravure in colours technique and is signed by the master of surrealism.

When thinking of Salvador Dalí's art, we unknowingly recall images of fantasy animals or abstract objects taken straight from our dreams. Dali's artistic language, full of dreamy symbols, can also be found in the series of prints on display, which interweave the dreamlike character of the Spanish painter's work with the academic precision of flower drawing, worthy of a botany textbook.

A silent contributor to the graphic works of the surrealist was Belgian artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté, who left an impressive artistic oeuvre of more than 2,000 works consisting of panels of botanical illustrations. Inspired by the precision of Redouté's work, Dali decided at the end of the 1960s to breathe life into the floral representations, while at the same time displaying the more humorous side of his prodigious imagination. It resulted in a series of floral prints created from the late 1960s to the early 1980s.

"Surrealist Flowers" are humorous and charming prints. To make them, Salvador Dalí used his most famous symbols, such as the dissolving clock from which the startling clockwork lilies grow or the human and animal forms accompanying the plants, which give an unearthly feel to the representations. Dali's surrealistic play with flowers is not only an exercise of his own imagination but also that of his viewers, who, through the prints, have the chance to look at the master of imagination's surreal interpretation of flowers.
