The coin we offer is preserved in very good condition, deliberately not cleaned with preserved natural patina. The Centenario coin, better known as the Mexican 50 peso, is an extraordinary gold coin that combines captivating artistry with a rich history, as its price with the amount of bullion it contains is one of the most competitive on the market. First issued in 1921 by the oldest mint in the Americas, La Casa de Moneda de México (the National Mint of Mexico), this coin contains 0.900 grade gold and has an impressive weight of 41.6g. Decorated with a beautiful allegorical personification of the Greek goddess Nike and a golden eagle, the emblem of Mexico, this 50 peso gold coin is stunning in its design. The coin's design tells the story of the Mexican War of Independence and imagines the revolutionary ideals that paved the way for the country's self-determination. The obverse depicts the Angel of Independence, a personification of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, standing in front of the Mexican volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, holding in his right hand a laurel wreath, symbolising victory, and in his left hand torn chains, symbolising freedom. To the left of the Angel is the denomination '50 PESOS' and the year '1821', signifying the date of Mexico's independence. On the right is given the pure gold content "37.5 Gr", accompanied by the text "ORO PURO", meaning "pure gold", and the date of issue. The reverse depicts the emblem of Mexico, a golden eagle sitting on a cactus with wings raised and devouring a snake. The eagle is surrounded by the text 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS', meaning 'United States of Mexico'.
