Claude Michel Clodion was a French sculptor, creating in the Rococo style. He was educated at the Paris workshop of Lambert-Sigisbert Adam. In 1761 he was awarded the Grand Prix of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He spent the years 1767-1771 in Rome. Catherine II the Great was an enthusiast of Clodion's work. His works of a very high artistic standard were mainly made of terracotta, marble and bronze.
