Period of creation
second half of the 19th century
Polonik, Patriotic, collector's spoon made entirely of 800 sample silver in the second half of the 19th century. The spoon was probably made abroad, probably on the individual order of a Polish patriot in an unrecognized goldsmith center. The outside scoop is beautifully decorated with a relief bust of King Sigismund III Vasa. Wide stem, profiled in several planes with flower vines motifs. In the upper part, a semi-plastic figure of an armed warrior and a Polish eagle are visible. A hallmark is visible, imitating the hallmark of the city of Gdańsk, which was probably supposed to emphasize the symbolism of Polishness, which was also of particular importance considering the period of Poland that was then under partition. The spoon is very large, heavy; length 20 cm, weight 121 grams.
