Alicja Halicka (1894-1975), "Two ballerinas", oil on canvas, dimensions: 61 x 38 cm, with a frame 86 x 63 cm. The work was done in the 1920s. The artist's handwritten signature "Halicka" visible in the lower right corner. Contemporary, wooden, perfectly matched frame. On the reverse there is an original exhibition sticker from the 1920s "GALERIE CONNAISSANCE DE L'EST / 14 RUE DE LILLE PARIS 7 / BAB 41-47 / No. 623 / Mr. Alice Halicka ......." State of preservation perfect. In the 1920s, the artist dealt with the design of costumes and scenography for operettas and ballet staged in theaters in Europe and the United States. This professional experience resulted in a series of compositions depicting dancers during exercises. The sketchy study of ballerinas in motion is drawn with a smooth line with a soft contour and brings to mind Degas' compositions.
