Sandra Gering Inc. gallery in New York is closing after 25 years of operation. The final exhibition, an installation by artist Jennifer Wen Ma, will be on view from 11 May to 18 July. The gallery will officially close on 31 August.
Sandra Gering issued a statement thanking the artists for the contributions they have made to her gallery and to the art scene as a whole. She expressed her belief that art brings people together, and admitted that she feels lucky to have met so many wonderful, supportive people along the way. She is happy that she has been able to promote the arts, and her experience of running a gallery is something she will not forget for the rest of her life.
She opened her gallery in 1991 in the West Village. After ten years, she moved to Chelsea. She later started working with Javier López and changed the gallery's address again. In 2013, she ended her collaboration with López, moved from 57th Street to 63rd Street, and named the gallery Sandra Gering Inc.
In her career, Sandra Gering has exhibited work by artists such as Leo Villarea, Xavier Veilhan, Janine Antoni, David Levinthal and many others. She did not reveal what her future plans are.
