Martin Bailey, a British art historian and Vincent van Gogh expert, claims to have found evidence that the bed from the painting "van Gogh's Room in Arles" (1889) has survived and is now in the Netherlands.
A letter from van Gogh's nephew
Martin Bailey bases his supposition on a letter from 1937 in which the painter's nephew, Vincent Willem, writes that he is in possession of the bed. Bailey believes that this correspondence proves the survival of the furniture, which was transported from France to the Netherlands.
The art historian took steps to find the famous bed. He contacted Johan van Gogh, son of Vincent Willem, and through his testimony deduced that the artefact is now in Boxmeer. The question is who owns the piece of furniture. And what condition is it in?
