Cecily Brown is a British painter inspired by famous old masters and artists associated with the abstract art movement. A graduate of London's Slade School of Fine Art, she worked as a waitress during her studies and later in an animation studio. In addition to painting, Brown also studied printmaking and drawing. She extended the tradition of abstract expressionism, and became known for her painting style imitating abstract and abstract expressionist painters such as Willem de Kooning and Oskar Kokoschka.
