Emile Galle was a French designer of glass, furniture and jewellery in the spirit of Art Nouveau. As a young man, he initially studied botany and philosophy, but at the same time he was working on projects for his father's ceramics factory. It was thanks to the family business that Galle was able to learn about glass and ceramics techniques. His works show a fascination with the world of nature, symbolism and Japanese art. He used grinding and etching techniques to decorate glass works.
