Józef Simmler was a Polish artist, portraitist and representative of realism in art. The artist studied in Dresden and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He painted historical paintings, religious compositions and portraits of representatives of the upper class, which were characterised by in-depth psychological features with clear idealisation. Throughout his life he was an active participant in art shows, mainly at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow.
