Juliusz Holzmüller began his education in 1897, when he studied decorative painting at the Lviv State Industrial School under the tutelage of, among others, Roman Bratkowski. In 1904, he left for Munich to perfect his skills at the Academy of Fine Arts there. In 1906 he completed his studies and returned permanently to Lviv, where he painted and worked for a living as a drawing teacher. Holzmüller worked mainly in watercolour and found many takers for his works. He went down in history as a painter of horses, which he depicted in battle scenes or outdoor scenes with nature in the background, but he also created city views. He exhibited his works in Lviv, at Warsaw's Zachęta or with the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow.
