Leon Wyczółkowski was a Polish painter, one of the most important representatives of the Young Poland movement in the style of realistic painting. His teachers included Wojciech Gerson and Jan Matejko. Apart from insightful portraits, he most often painted moody landscapes of the Tatra Mountains and Ukraine and still lives, especially flowers. The motif of the Polish countryside is also often noticeable in his works. He painted in many techniques (oil painting, watercolour, tempera) and practised various graphic techniques (lithography, algraphy, etching and others).
