Lucas Cranach the Elder was a German painter and printmaker of the Renaissance. He learned to draw from his father, and in his early years his style was similar to the work of Albrecht Dürer. In later years he was court painter to the Prince-elector Frederick the Wise. Both of his sons became painters (Hans and Lucas). He was balancing between late Gothic, Renaissance and Mannerism. His paintings can be found in the most important galleries in the world: the Art Museum in Vienna, the Dresden Gallery or the National Gallery in London.
