Magdalena Shummer-Fangor is a Polish artist. She graduated in art history at the University of Warsaw. Since 1961, she has lived abroad together with her husband Wojciech Fangor; first in Vienna, then in Paris, West Berlin and London, and in 1966-98 in the USA. She exhibited her works mainly in New York, collaborating with several galleries on a permanent basis. She is a witty artist with an extraordinary imagination. In her paintings she is faithful and consistent both with the materials she uses and with her subject matter. She describes her style as poetic realism. She willingly refers to the historical canons of composition. Her most frequent themes are animals, portraits, flowers and genre scenes. These are not, however, ordinary portraits and ordinary scenes - seen through the artist's eyes, they introduce us into the extraordinary world of her imagination.
