Stefan Gierowski is a Polish painter and abstractionist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Department of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. He made his debut in 1955, showing his works at the legendary exhibition 'Against War, Against Fascism' at the Arsenal in Warsaw. From 1962 to 1996 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and was a professor. In the second half of the 1950s, he moved away from figurative painting towards abstraction. He does not give titles to his works, but numbers them with Roman numerals.
