Stefan Krygier was a Polish painter, graphic artist, art theoretician, architect and university teacher. He is considered one of the most interesting continuators of the tradition of the Łódź avant-garde in post-war Poland. He was a co-founder of the ST-53 GROUP, established in Katowice in 1953. His paintings from the early 1950s were an attempt to transpose inspiration from the art of Ancient Egypt into the language of modern art. At the end of the 1970s, he painted pictures that were ascetic in content, referring to constructivism.
