Masaccio was an Italian painter of the quattrocento and one of the pioneers of the Renaissance. He is the creator of the fresco in the church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, with its depiction of the Holy Trinity, and the frescoes of the Brancacci Chapel (the chapel at the church of Santa Maria del Carmine). The artist's career lasted only six years, but left a clear mark on Western art. The painter's work was inspired by Filippo Lippi, Fra Angelico, Andrea del Castagno and Piero della Francesca, among others.
