Władysław Strzemiński was a Polish painter, assistant to Kazimir Malevich, art theorist and pioneer of the avant-garde of the 1920s and 1930s. In 1921, he moved to Vilnius, where he co-organised the New Art Exhibition (1923) and groups: "Block of Cubists, Suprematists and Constructivists" and "Praesens". In 1928, together with Katarzyna Kobro, he founded the artistic group "a.r.". What is more, in 1948, he designed the Neoplastic Room, which was destroyed on the orders of the communist, Polish authorities in 1950. In 1958 the book "Theory of Seeing", written by Strzeminski between 1948 and 1949, was published.
