Yana Barantseva
First and last name
Yana Barantseva
Date of birth
1972, Vladivostok

Barantseva Yana works under the pseudonym WuhaVanGogh. As a child she lived close to the ocean, which made a huge impression on her. The sea and the ocean became her place of power. At the age of 16, she moved with her parents to Odesa, her mother's hometown. Once again she found herself by the sea, which inspired her to write small sketches. Her father, who drew a little himself, was very supportive of her desire to become an artist, so in 1986 he sent her to art school, from which she graduated with honours in 1989.

Between 1989 and 1991, in order to gain more professional experience, she studied at the School of Graphic Designers. Most of her work during this time was about the landscapes around her and reflected the Ukrainian culture that fascinated her.

In 1992, she married and moved to Belarus. She became a mother of three children, but nevertheless continued to paint and exhibited her work in various exhibitions.

In 2000, she organised her first independent exhibition at the Exhibition of Folk Art in Gomel.

Over time, she wanted to master other forms of creativity, so she studied and graduated from the School of Design in 2006-2007, after which she started working as a graphic designer.

Since 2017, she has been working as a freelance designer, collaborating with companies such as EPAM, Wargaming, Spartak, Komunarka and many others.

Unfortunately, in 2022 she had to leave Belarus, which had become her second home, and moved to Georgia, where she began to reflect her anxieties about the political situation in her paintings.

Between 2022 and 2024, she held several solo exhibitions, including at Hotel Connect, Dissident Restaurant, Cafe 9 ¾, and participated in a charity exhibition dedicated to the war in Ukraine in Tbilisi.

In 2024, she and her family moved to Poland, where her exhibition is held at the Korolevska Kava restaurant.

In the future, she plans to dedicate many of her works to her experiences, her pain for her homeland, and her vision of the beauty of the world around her.
