Zofia Stryjeńska was a Polish painter, graphic artist, illustrator and set designer. She is considered to be one of the most outstanding representatives of art déco. Initially she studied at the School of Fine Arts for Women by Maria Niedzielska in Kraków. From 1911 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, pretending to be a man. She belonged to the Rhythm artistic group. She usually created in tempera technique, but she also often used pastels and watercolours, and she could use lithography. In her works she referred to folklore, she was also fascinated by the beliefs of the ancient Slavs.
