Freidwaldauer Porzellanmanufaktur H. Schmidt & Otremba, Freiwaldau (now Jeseník, Czech Republic) was originally founded in 1845 as a porcelain painting studio by Gustav Otremba. The painting studio proved to be successful, but the costs of purchasing porcelain items for decoration were relatively high. In 1884, Otremba entered into a partnership with entrepreneur Schmidt, and together they began producing their own porcelain products, mainly focusing on tableware. In 1888, Gustav Otremba retired, leaving the company in the hands of his partner, who continued its development and transformed it into an independent enterprise.
