Initially founded as a porcelain painting factory in 1845 by Gustav Otremba. The painter's shop was successful, but the cost of buying crockery for painting was relatively high, so in 1884 Otremba entered into a partnership with the entrepreneur Schmidt and they began producing their own wares. Mainly tableware was produced. In 1888 Gustav Otremba retired, leaving the company in the hands of a partner who turned it into his own enterprise.
