Guldsmedsaktiebolaget, also known as GAB, is a Swedish manufacturer of silver and nickel silver cutlery based in Eskilstuna. The company was founded in Stockholm between 1861 and 1868, initially specializing in the production of silver and nickel silver items. From 1930 to 1978, its subsidiary, Guldvaru AB G. Dahlgren & Co., produced jewelry as well.
In 1964, GAB acquired the company Gense, which owned the Nilsjohan brand from 1982 to 1986. During this period, the company expanded its production to include stainless steel cutlery. Additionally, from 1961 to 1978, GAB owned the Hallbergs retail chain, further contributing to the growth of the brand.
From 1907 to 1942, Jacob Ęngman served as the artistic director of the company, and together with his successor, Sven Arne Gillgren, played a significant role in promoting industrial design, contributing to GAB's success in the market.
Ownership and structural changes in the 1980s led to the dissolution of the group led by GAB. As a result, the company returned to its original form within the GENSE group, continuing to produce high-quality cutlery that remains highly regarded worldwide.
