Lacoste
Name
Lacoste
In 1933, French tennis player René Lacoste and his partner André Gillier set up a business - they began mass-producing T-shirts with an image of an alligator. Alligator was a nickname for the tennis player during Lacoste's peak years of sporting fame because of the alligator skin briefcase he wore. The company achieved success in the 1980s. In November 2012, Lacoste was bought outright by Swiss family group Maus Frères - an estimated deal worth more than €1 billion.
