WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) is a German company founded in 1880, specializing in metalware products. The company originated from the merger of Daniel Straub's factory, which had been operating since 1853, and the acclaimed Ritter & Co., which had won numerous awards at exhibitions in Vienna, Munich, and Philadelphia. Thanks to this merger, WMF quickly expanded its offerings and gained international recognition for its products, particularly for those displayed in the Art Nouveau style.

By the end of the 19th century, WMF had become one of the largest global manufacturers and exporters of metal household items. The company’s symbol, an ostrich—part of the Straub family’s heraldic sign—represented its identity. WMF strived to create a unique style, seeking distinct proportions and aesthetics, which led to the establishment of an art studio within the factory. During this period, WMF also expanded its reach by acquiring the Plewkiewicz & Co factory in Warsaw and Albert Köhler u. Cie in Vienna, which manufactured goods under the WMF brand.

Although the company’s golden era ended with the outbreak of World War I, WMF endured, adapting to changing times and becoming a household name in metal kitchenware and consumer goods. Today, WMF is renowned for its premium quality cutlery, kitchen accessories, and household equipment, remaining one of the most recognized brands in its industry.
