The New Museum of Art, a project of a new branch of the National Museum in Gdańsk dedicated to 20th- and 21st-century art, has recently officially joined the ranks of Pomeranian cultural institutions and will be housed in former shipyard buildings.
On 26 November 2017, the inauguration of NOMUS took place at the European Solidarity Centre. In the official manifesto, Aneta Szyłak, the plenipotentiary for the creation of the museum, presented the most important information characterizing the institution's activities - for the museum is to be a facility that brings together artists, researchers, workers, as well as local residents and operates on the principle of a kind of laboratory; it is to present not only visual arts, but also theatre, music, photography or films; and finally, it is to be a critical museum.
