Experimental animation about famous Dutch Post-Impressionist is not only a big financial success ($20 million worldwide at the box office) but recently it has been also highly appreciated by the film industry. Yesterday a story about Vincent van Gogh got an Oscar nomination in the Best Animated Feature category.

"Loving Vincent" and Oscar nomination

This astonishing production took thousands of hours – 65,000 different oil paintings which are equivalent of 65,000 different film frames were created. That makes "Loving Vincent" the first fully and literally painted feature film – all this thanks to 125 artists who managed to perfectly imitate van Gogh’s style. In order to immerse in a strange, colourful, vivid but also dark world of this outstanding and complicated artist everything what we see on a screen is turned into a finished work of art.

Van Gogh’s biggest rival is probably "Coco" – a touching story about Mexican Day of the Dead. The winner will be announced at the beginning of March 2018.
