Spring paintings—the season on canvas

Buds on the branches, crocuses and tulips, a warmer breeze—spring is already in bloom outside the window. We encourage all lovers of the ongoing season to introduce a work of art into their space that will remind them of the wonderful spring aura all year round. Botanical paintings depicting flowers and trees are quite versatile, yet they beautify an interior in an elegant, simple way. It's like an immortal bouquet in a vase, only much more impressive. There is no shortage of spring in the Talents auction catalogue. Vladimir Vasilishen's work Pink morning (item 9) will appeal to fans of purple and pink flowers, while Paulina Lignar's 'Bush' (lot 59) will appeal to nature-loving minimalists. Spring also means new crops. 'Strawberry Season' (lot 8) by Anna Franczuk shows the simple satisfaction of eating the fruit, even though the frame reveals only a pink mouth with teeth biting into a strawberry. On the other hand, collectors looking for figurative works alluding to spring should look out for the painting 'Spring walk' (lot 18) by Anna Dzierżak, which shows little boys playing on a green hill.

Figuration and portraiture - mysterious figures, dynamic images, psychological analyses

In the catalogue of the April Talents auction, we present a broad spectrum of portraits and figurations that exude an enigmatic aura, engage with their energetic character or attempt to portray inner human dilemmas. Rafał Stryjecki's painting 'Awaiting Melody' (lot 53), in which a woman with a candle in her hand looks out of a window at a grey seascape, certainly falls into the former category. A similar mysterious mood can be found in two canvases by Anzhela Tistyk: 'Beloved One' (lot 80) and 'Tranquillity' (lot 81), as well as in the highly decorative gold and turquoise painting by Andżelika Kucharska 'Senses' (lot 21). On the other hand, the portrait of a couple entitled 'Tucked by Love' by Sylwia Gumkowska (lot 73) offers a subdued, realistic image of a woman and a man, surrounded by ornaments and patterns as if from the works of Gustav Klimt. The second type of figuration available for auction are dynamic works, full of strong colours, sometimes even caricatured. These features can be found in Anna Walczak's 'Reflection' (lot 93) and Natalia Dubinska's 'Thanks for nothing' (lot 95), both of which incorporate human faces into abstract structures and patterns. A more minimalist example of a portrait of this kind is 'War in Blue' by Ewelina Lochman (lot 83) or 'Marilyn' by Marcin Góralski (lot 71), which depict figures in a dynamic manner but against a uniform background. On the other hand, for those interested in Eastern culture, we recommend Małgorzata Siepiela's 'Japanese Woman in a Red Kimono' (lot 12) and Anastasia Kostrytsi's 'Tranquility' (lot 27), which show the influence of Oriental aesthetics. Finally, there is the third category of portraits, i.e. paintings analysing and looking deep into the human psyche, such as Anna Krzanowska's 'In Distorting Mirror XXIII' (lot 72), Anna Walczak's 'Moods of Madame Bizu' (lot 17), and Wiktoria Ratajczak's 'two faces' (lot 82).

Landscape and architecture — the uniqueness of space

Panoramas remind us of special places, even if we have never actually visited them. By hanging a landscape on the wall, we add a completely different outdoor space to the room, to which we can transport ourselves with a single glance. Whether you are looking for an escape into a rural setting or are interested in the industrial aesthetics of the city, our auction catalogue offers a range of interesting views to assist in the internal teleportation to another world. Typical and realistic landscapes depicting rustic places include Justyna Kotula's 'Playing Lights' (lot 44), Mira Woynicz's 'Morning at the Warta River' (lot 92) or Agnieszka Gwoździńska's 'Harvest' (item 45). For collectors looking for more gloomy landscapes with subdued grey colours, we suggest two works by Agnieszka Sterne 'Nighthawks' (lot 66) and 'Forest' (lot 65), as well as Anna Lutyńska's minimalist, light view 'Silence' (item 61). The vedutas auctioned, on the other hand, approach the theme of architecture in very different ways. On the one hand, Anna Kruszewska's paintings 'Paris' (lot 10) and 'Modena' (lot 48) or Adrian Ambroziak's work 'I'm your passenger' (lot 2) show a cityscape in a realistic and literal style, even offering viewers the exact location of the painted buildings. On the other hand, the catalogue features Edyta Szalewska's 'City Landscape - Bamberg' (lot 68), a cast-iron object on paper that shows a fragment of the metropolis in the form of a bas-relief. In addition, an unusual view of space can be found in Joanna Abra's painting '36 Windows' (lot 85), where the perspective from below reveals to the viewer a starry sky surrounded by blocks of flats.

Animalistic—cats in every dimension

There was no shortage of works depicting animals at the April Talents auction, but this time it will be mainly images of cats — the smaller and the larger ones — that will be auctioned. Starting with Marta Podoska's landscape 'Copy-cats' (lot 16), which shows two, ordinary, black cats in an urban space, through Uliana Ciszek's black and red painting 'Panther' (lot 43) and Monika Solorz's dynamic 'Cheetah' (lot 77), ending with the portrait 'Lion.001' by Andrzej Dudek (lot 70). For lovers of animals other than cats, we propose paintings depicting frogs, namely 'Just one kiss' by Anna Kozłowska (lot 51) and 'Frog 3' by Alicja Góralska (lot 11).

Abstraction—a different perspective on nature, form, and colour

Finally, there is a subject that is never in short supply in recent art, namely abstraction. Collectors are keen on abstract paintings because they usually do not have a specific message, so the relationship with the work in question is highly individual, while giving the viewer room for independent interpretation. In the Talent auction catalogue, you will find many non-realistic works in which you can find your own understanding of the world depicted. Each abstract painting represents something different, but some seem to correspond with each other in style, colour, dynamics, or theme. One of the themes explored by some abstract works is nature, captured by the artists in very different ways. Nature elements can be seen in Monika Kwarciak's 'Forgotten Land' (lot 52) and Monika Seroka's 'Depths 9' (lot 20), which clearly show references to seascapes. Joanna Wietrzycka's work 'The Power of Crimson 2' (lot 39), on the other hand, is a colour-intensive structure that allows the viewer to see a non-obvious panorama with mountains. Plant and botanical motifs can be seen in Monika Gągorowska-Rakowska's painting 'Shining' (lot 64) and Agnieszka Gajewska's 'Essence' (lot 22). Another category of auctioned abstractions are eye-catching, dynamic and colour-intensive canvases and works on paper. Some of them are characterized by a multiplicity of details that allow for multiple explorations of the themes and meaning of a given artwork, such as 'Harlequin at the Carnival Avenue' (lot 29) or 'Conquered Mind' (lot 30) by Magdalena Borkowska, 'Anahata' (lot 94) by Aleksandra Lisiecka or 'Overloaded' (lot 25) by Katarzyna Tańska. More structured strong abstractions depicting basic geometric shapes include Jolanta Reszuta's 'Square Heaven' (lot 6), Barbara Głowienka's 'Meltdown' (lot 34), and two paintings by Magdalena Bautsch 'Blueberry Ice Cream' (lot 4) and 'Bright Future' (lot 5). For clients looking for intense abstractions on paper, we recommend highlighting the work of Krzysztof Iwanowicz, such as 'Gentleness' (lot 35). In addition, the catalogue features abstractions that are expressive but minimalist in means. These include works by Fran Wasi, namely 'Tutti-frutti yoghurt' (lot 32) with a dominant cobalt shade and 'X14' (lot 33) with a rainbow space cube. Similarly, stylistically related are two works by Marcin Waśka, 'Labyrinth 3' (lot 96) and 'Gazpacho' (lot 41), in which the artist has superimposed unusual forms and shapes on a repetitive background pattern. The last two works, characterized by their expressive colour palette and simplicity of representation, are an untitled painting by Julian Binderman (lot 50) and 'Colours of Sound - LA' by Tymon Adamczak (lot 42). Finally, abstractions that are calm and subdued, such as the long black and white painting 'Existence' (lot 57) by Jagoda Domanska or the canvas conveying Natalia Dubinska's diary notes 'Notes to you' (lot 1). Masterful abstract works notable for their combination of grey colours and vivid yellow are 'Like you know me' (lot 58) by Agnieszka Wilgos and 'Ephemeral Feelings 2' (lot 60) by Joanna Wietrzycka. For fans of music and dark, black representations, we draw particular attention to the large-scale painting 'Night Jazz' by Viktor Stadniczenko (lot 67).
