The Musem of Selfies will open up in Los Angeles this spring. Founders of the project, Tair Mamedov and Tommy Honton, point out that the museum is not only about showing selfies, but it will also try to tell a story about them, which includes even prehistoric cave art.
"Over a million selfies are uploaded to social media every day. Whether you think they’re the most amazing thing ever or the low point of human culture, selfies have a firmly cemented place in our modern society, but also have roots going back to the most ancient and primal aspects of our species".
A major objective of the exhibitions is to analyze a fenomen of selfies and show their significance in the context of history, art, culture and science. The museum will present many artworks, starting from prehistoric art and ending with contemporary photos featuring celebrities like Kim Kardashian. In addition, people will be able to create their own selfies through interactive exhibits using motives like top of a skyscraper or two-sided mirror room.
The Museum of Selfies will be open from April 1 to May 31, a visit will last between 60-90 minutes.
