One of the most interesting and decorative techniques is inlay work, which has been known since ancient times and was widely used in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. It is used to decorate walls, furniture or utilitarian products and produces stunning visual and textural effects.

What is inlay work? 

Inlay work consists of pasting properly cut tiles of materials such as ivory, horn, precious stones, metal, gold, and mother-of-pearl into pre-cut recesses in a stone, metal or wooden base. 
Decorations made using the inlay technique could be geometric, floral, or depict a landscape or figurative scenes. In Europe, the heyday of this technique was in 17th century France.
