Porcelite, sometimes called semi-porcelain, is a type of stoneware that is characterized by a low kaolin content. It is fired at a temperature of 1300 °C. The main uses of porcelain are utilitarian and decorative vessels.
A few words about the character
Porcelite is heavier than porcelain and has a lower quality. However, this makes porcelite ideal for making casserole dishes. It is impermeable and non-transparent, and the shade of the uncoated mass is close to grey. To add colour to porcelite, it is glazed with coloured glazes.
In Poland, porcelite is becoming increasingly popular, especially from the communist period. Collectors of this type of wares are eagerly reaching for wares from their local Mirostowice or Pruszków.
